Forever Love

Binding us together in perfect harmony

More updated pictures of our house… with the lights switched on :)

This is the view of the corridor when the main door is opened. The blank wall (of the dining room) will eventually be decorated with my photography.

This is the view of the living room (TV console all in place). No TV, sofa, coffee table, entertainment system and curtains yet though :p. Compare this actual view with the original design schematic.

The dining room as it looks now (from the living room). Items due: curtains, dining table/chairs and the piano!

Cy was initially concerned that we do not have adequate lighting in the bedroom. With all 6 halogen lamps at the brightest intensity and the table lamps in place, her fears have finally been allayed :P

For the times when we want a cosier (and dimmer) mood in the bedroom, the halogen lamps can be dimmed, leaving the table lamps to light up the bedside.

Due to our busy schedules and a difficulty in finding a common convenient time for us all, our designer had kindly arranged for a curtains & blinds selection session with the sales person on a public holiday, National Day.

Despite me still feeling unwell especially when I’m on those medicine that cause drowsiness, I couldn’t miss such an important appointment so I managed to drag myself there. Although there are hiccups along the way during our renovation, we are still glad that we have engaged a designer who can help us oversee the whole project and even accompany us for the shopping of lights and curtains/blinds. That saves us time from looking for one ourselves.

As it was the C.K. Tangs last day of sales of 10% – 20% discount off with a further 12% rebate for Citibank cardmembers, we got ourselves some household items such as a Meyer non-stick cooking wok, a non-stick spatula, a small 1.7 litre Moulinex electric kettle, a small 3-cups Zojirushi rice cooker and a Philips cordless DECK phone.

Would love to have a bigger rice-cum-porridge cooker but decided to settle for a small rice cooker for the 2 of us first. As for the electric kettle, we couldn’t find one that can hold at least 2 litre, made of ‘metal’ yet without a metal coil inside. The closest one we found were from Kenwood and Iona. Not many choices to choose from. We almost wanted to get the one from Kenwood but the sales person wasn’t very helpful so we boycotted it. As for Iona, the cover was very difficult to open and close so we dropped the idea. That was how we got the Moulinex one instead and moreover, it was the last piece on display. Well, at least we have one to tide us over till we find a better one. :)

It has been a while since my last update on the renovation progress. Since then, the lighting works are completed and the furniture installed. The clothes hanger system has been fixed up and the whole house has undergone 2 fresh coats of paint.

Here are some updated pictures of the progress :)

Our dining room with all the lights turned on. One bulb from the chandelier is missing, however, and the plastic is still used to cover the wall light for piano on the right.

A glance at our living room with all the lights switched on, too.

Our master bedroom bedframe, side-tables and bed-head all nicely done up. Some cleaning to be done before the final handover though :P All that is missing now is the matress and side-table lamps.

This is the chest of drawers opposite our king-sized bed.
It comes with a nice slide-out table that we can use if we need to do some quick paper-work.

Our study table with enough space for the two of us, storage space at the top and a second tier shelf for putting the computer printer. There is also a fabric-covered metal board near the window for putting magnets. But we face a problem here though … magnets can’t stick on it at the moment.

One good thing about photography as a hobby: you won’t have to shop for pictures to decorate your own home! One design idea I have insisted on from the very beginning is to have a wall showcasing some of my photographic works. This idea will be realised in the dining room. I spent some time doing up some measurements as well as a scale diagram on how the pictures should be displayed. The only thing left now is to enlarge the pictures, frame them and put them up! :)

After visiting the same shop at Great World City for more than 5 times and a few other shops, we finally purchased our water feature this evening from Astoria.
